About Maheshacharya In English | Supreme Religious Leader Of Maheshwari Community | The Maheshacharya

Maheshacharya (Sanskrit: महेशाचार्य) is a religious title used for the president (peethadhipati) of “Divyashakti Yogpeeth Akhada" in the tradition of Maheshwaritva (Maheshwarism) in Maheshwari community. "Divyashakti Yogpeeth Akhada (which is known as Maheshwari Akhada, is famous)" is the highest/supreme Gurupeeth of Maheshwari community. The word Maheshacharya is composed of two parts, Mahesha and Acharya. Acharya is a Sanskrit word meaning "teacher", so Maheshacharya means "teacher", who teaches the path shown by Lord Mahesha.

According to the origin story of Maheshwari dynasty, Lord Maheshji made these six (6) sages Maharishi Parashar, Saraswat, Gwala, Gautam, Shringi, Dadhich the gurus of Maheshwaris and entrusted them with the responsibility of guiding the Maheshwaris/Maheshwari community to follow the path of religion (For the origin story of Maheshwari dynasty, click/touch here > Maheshwari - Origin and brief History). Later, these Gurus also gave the post of Maheshwari Guru to Rishi Bhardwaj due to which the number of Maheshwari Gurus became seven (7) who are called Saptarishi among Maheshwaris. He came to be known as Gurumaharaj. These Gurus had established a 'Gurupeeth' which was called "Maheshwari Gurupeeth" so that the work of management and guidance of Maheshwari society went smoothly. The head of the Gurupeeth was decorated with the title of “Maheshacharya”. Maheshacharya- This is the official highest/supreme guru post of Maheshwari community.

Only the President (Peethadhipati) of “Divyashakti Yogpeeth Akhada” (which is known as Maheshwari Akhara, is famous)" is the highest/supreme Gurupeeth of Maheshwari community, is entitled/officially authorized to be adorned/decorated with the title of “Maheshacharya”. Presently Yogi Premsukhanand Maheshwari is the Peethadhipati of "Divyashakti Yogpeeth Akhara" & is Maheshacharya. Maharishi Parashar is the first Peethadhipati of Maheshwari Gurupeeth and hence Maharishi Parashar is "Adi Maheshacharya".

However, according to tradition and belief, the heritage of Maheshwari Gurupeeth is more than five thousand years old. It was founded as ‘Maheshwari Gurupeeth’ by Adi Maheshacharya Maharshi Parashar during his lifetime, together with six (6) Rishi- Saraswat, Gwala, Gautam, Shringi, Dadhich and Bhardwaj. However, this tradition restored formally by Yogi Premsukhanand Maheshwari an official name "Divyashakti Yogapeeth Akhada" in the year 2008. At the time of official establishment of this supreme Gurupeeth of Maheshwari community, its name was registered as "Divyashakti Yogpeeth Akhada", but it is popularly known as Maheshwari Akhada, is famous.

Maheshwari Akhada is Maheshwari community's top/supreme religious-spiritual management organization. The main task of the akhada is to defend religion, culture of Maheshwari. Maheshwari Akhada's main objective is to organise, consolidate the Maheshwari society and to protect the Maheshwari culture.
